Esther Goes To Jakarta

Esther & Venice having fun playing while learning to share with each other.  The long awaited post is finally here.  As I'm still working on the templates as you can see it's still a bit messed up at the front page.  Never the less, let me get on with the story.  Well basically we were in Jakarta from the 28th July till the 6th of August.  The flight was kinda packed, and many people were really concerned about H1N1.  But never the less, by the grace of God we all arrived Jakarta safely despite the 1 hour delay by AirAsia.  Esther was asleep during the whole time, but unfortunately for Deluxe her arm got cramps due to carrying Esther the whole time.  Anyway, we arrived Jakarta about 1 am Malaysian time and headed straight home after that.
As we got up the next day, we've pretty much stayed home and rest.  Well basically for me I guess have to take a break because worried of falling sick.  Because my previous trip which actually took me out while I got back from Jakarta and ended up spending a night at the hospital due to the fact of consuming the wrong medicine which was prescribe to me by the doctor.  Anyhow, on that day Esther finally met her cousin Venice.  Yes it was indeed a sight for sore eyes to see that both of them would be able to get along very well.  We were very surprised with Venice that she would give in to Esther as she was younger.  Never the less, both of them were having fun whenever the see each other.
This is how Esther "Sayang" People.  Later that evening all of us went and visited Deluxe's Aunt.  And of course Esther & Venice were showered with hugs and kisses by none the less her Ku Poh (Grand Aunt).  As she haven't seen Esther for about 9 months already.  I guess Esther was pretty confused with all the people around her suddenly.  But knowing her cousin Venice was around, she was cool with everything.  Not to mention the amount of toys and dolls were around that pretty much kept her busy, while the rest of us tend to catch up regarding the latest news with each other.
After we left, we headed to another place where Deluxe's Uncle is staying.  As this was considered the final stop of the journey before heading home.  We've pretty much stayed on slightly a bit longer.  Esther got reacquainted  with another familiar face.  But unfortunately for her "Pak Poh", she was sort of freaked out so she held on to Deluxe even more.  Lol, the sight of her clinging on to Deluxe was a classic moment.  Never the less it was all good.  She did meet up with her grand uncle, and one of her uncle who couldn't stop taking pictures of Venice and Esther.   I guess two little stars in the making.  After that we head back home which was pretty much end of day 2.
Gado-Gado. Taken from my previous trip as I can't use my camera.  On day 3, our next destination was to Mangga Dua ITC.  One of the places you must go while you are in Jakarta.  Inside you'll find all sorts of things, and tons of people moving around.  Unfortunately for me, I was told that I shouldn't take out my camera as it would attract unnecessary problems as well as magicians.  Their trick would make things disappear without you even noticing it, so I had to wear my back pack in front to prevent any of those things from happening.  Lol.  Anyway, after lunch we pretty much went around the whole place in search of Esther's floor pads.  Round and round we go, and managed to stopped by a few places to get a new pair of shorts as wells as other stuff.  But never the less, we reached our destination in a little shop of Mangga Dua ITC.
In this shop, Deluxe and mum in law were speaking bahasa Indonesia with them.  And once they over heard the lady speaking hakka with the husband, well.  You could say all hell broke loose.  And yes, you tend to get things cheaper when you are "Chi Ka Ngin" (family).  So basically it's all good when you know dialect, as it gives you an upper advantage in everything.  Which reminded me of our trip when we went to KK 2 years ago, as the shop keeper really treated us like family even gave us a complimentary meal.
Inside the amusement park taking pictures.  After a while, Esther started to get cranky.  As she was getting hungry and sleepy.  So we quickly rushed back to the car and headed to Artha Gading which was the next mall on the way back home.  Upon arrival, Deluxe brother wanted to check to see if the office was still open for renewing the driving license.  But unfortunately it was closed as they are only opened till 3pm, and we were there was like 4.30pm.  Anyway, we decided to have a walk around and see what this mall had to offer us, as it was considered one of the biggest mall in Jakarta.  No doubt it was huge, but we only managed to cover probably 5% as we only went and see the amusement park only.  Due to the fact that now we have children and shopping for clothes doesn't seem to interests them.  Lol.  We didn't get on the rides, as it wasn't really worth it.  So most of the time we just stand in front of something and start taking pictures.  Lol.
Then it was not long before we decided to head over to another mall, which so by happened to be in that area as well for dinner.  We went to the food court and I had Soto Mie, which kinda taste like our Kuching |Gu Bak Mee" (Beef Noodles) but with more taste.  Dunkin Donuts was there as well, but I was quickly turned off when I saw the price.  Lol.   Call me cheapskate I don't mind, but I don't think I wanna spend that sort for money just for 1 donut.  So basically that sort of ended our Day 3 of Jakarta.
Deluxe, Margaret, Esther &<br/>amp; Nicholas  Day 4 began when Deluxe best friend, dropped by and visited us.  Apparently she have a son also who is older than Esther about 5-6 months.  Yes, Nicholas was surrounded by roses well Esther and Venice of course.  Lol.  So you could imagine 3 children play together and yes it was very happening inside the house that once was only filled with 4 people.  As Deluxe and Margaret was catching up on all times, and at the same time watching over the children.  I've decided to follow dad in law to learn the art of trading.
No doubt the journey to that place took like close to 2 hours, which was due to the massive traffic jam.  Even going through using the toll didn't help much at all as by the time we exited the toll, the traffic was even congested.  Anyway, after going through a few things there we headed back to the shop and spent an hour and a half there before heading back.  On the way back from the shop it was about 10pm Jakarta time already.  All of us haven't had dinner, so Dad in law suggested that we try and have something before going back.  As I was a bit concern about home if they had already eaten or not, they told me not to worry about them.  So what I had was "Ayam Kodok" which is Chicken Frog (literally direct translation).  Well, actually it was more like begger chicken to me.  It's kinda small but just nice for 4 people to eat, and the taste was great.  And after 28 years of walking in this planet, I eaten my very first frog legs.  Yes, you've heard me.  Frog legs, which tasted like chicken.  Don't think I'll try that again ever.  Anyway, that pretty much ended day 4.
If it wasn't for the escalators at the back you would have thought we were in a botanical garden.  Day 5 was a Sunday, as both mom and dad in law went and attended their church service which was extremely early for me to get up.  So we went and attended Gereja Reformed Injili Indonesia which was extremely huge.  Here we managed to catch up with Deluxe's other friends Lenny & Shelly.  Yes, the last time they were together was 2 years ago during our wedding.  But it was pretty much a good reunion as we decided to go to Plaza Indonesia for lunch.  I find that this place was kinda unique in a sense whereby each floor was actually using a different theme.  There was like a whole floor of New York City, then followed by Hollywood, and also China Town.  I was told that there were more themes, but we didn't go and explore the other side.  Again, while I was taking photographs of the place a security guard came by and asked me not to do it.  Then my brother in law told me that, they were worried because of the high resolution camera that I'm using to duplicate whatever design they have in that mall.  Because there was one incident in Vegas where his friend also using a DSLR took pictures of everything inside, the security stopped him and asked him to delete all the photos that he took.  If not they'll confiscate his memory card, so what to do. He ended up formatting everything.  But then the guard did tell me that I can actually use either my handphone or those compact camera and it won't really be a big issue.  So I find it pointless lugging my camera around in shopping malls already.  Lol.
These are the pictures you just got to develop for future references.  After we managed to meet Lenny & Shelly for lunch, we went and drop off our cousin back to her place.  But ended up staying there the whole afternoon.  As unexpected visitors came as well.  So basically they were having fun the whole time, while I was behind in the kitchen munching away on freshly made Pisang Goren (fried banana).  Never the less, it was good for Esther as she was able to socialize with other children.  So at least we know she won't have problems making friends in the future.
The 2 kids on the left is basically her 2nd cousin, as they were thrilled to see Esther.  Don't know why though but they wanted to carry her all the time.  But of course with adult supervision.  Lol.  Never the less, it was quite an experience for her, so that's why we had to stayed on a little bit longer for them to play as well as getting along with each other.  Esther seems to grow a lot when she interacts with other children especially her elder cousin Venice.  As both of them are always having fun, even though it was nap time for Esther.  As soon as she hears Venice's voice she tends to jump up and wants to go outside to play with her.  Lol.  Anyway, after that we pretty much headed home and call it a day.
Lenny, Esther & Shelly  Day 6, I went out a while with dad in law in the morning, while Deluxe was able to renew her driving license.  And it was because of Esther, the personal asked her to wait for a while without asking her to come back during the afternoon to collect it because that time it was close to 12pm so normally they'll get people to come back around 1 after their lunch break.
Any how, Lenny & Shelly dropped by the house again to pretty much catch up with Deluxe before they will be heading back to their respective places.  And of course they managed to hang out with and took many more pictures.  Yes, Esther was well loved and cared for during her trip to Jakarta.  You could tell she was having a time of her life there.  As she began to crawl on her legs instead on her tummy.  Trying to climb on chairs to pretty much stand up, and also being very adventurous in exploring new territory.  Now we are a bit concern in leaving her alone, unattended even when she sleeps.  Yes, eventually climb off the bed and on to the floor and started crying to let us know that she's awake already.  Poor girl was probably scared when she woke up when no one was around her.  But it's all good I suppose.  Part of growing up.  Lol.
Another classic moments which I think they'll<br/>remember.  After they left, we went to Mall of Indonesia which is also nearby our area.  Here Esther and Venice finally get onto the rides provided inside the mall.  You could say it was like a mini amusement park in there.  You can actually explore part of the mall on their cable car.  First Esther and Venice rode on a mini car before sitting inside the train.  Lol, you should really see Esther's reaction.  She was frighten because there was no support inside the car and wanted to get off immediately.  But once she got used to it, the ride finally stop.  Then it was off to the train whereby the mothers were allowed to accompany them while riding on it.  As they go round and round in circles, they were pretty much smiling whenever they pass us at the meeting point.  Once the ride was over, we ended up headed for the food court to get our dinner.  As it was pretty much a hectic day, we decided to went back home and rest.
Day 7 however started off with work.  As I had to take photographs of all the antiques which will be posted up to be sold in Situs.Me.  It's a new Indonesian local website where you can actually post your items to be sold.  More like Lelong or eBay.  So that pretty much took up a whole day for us to take pictures, and get the measurements of everything.  But towards the evening, we went to Sari Kuring for dinner.
Complete family photos.  The food there was excellent.  I didn't dare to order the sambal as I was worried that it might upset my stomach and things would go bad in the end.  Lol.  When the food arrived, Esther was being very adventurous.  So I had to bring her around the restaurant looking at fishes as well as the lamps that were inside.  As this was more less like a father and daughter bonding moment, she was happy when she saw the fish swimming around in the fish tanks.  I guess it was something new for her.  Lol.
After dinner, we decided to do a little bit of shopping before we head back.  I went and scout some prices of phones, and cameras.  I noticed that it was way over priced for electronic goods.  I think I could actually make a living in selling these stuff there.  But Deluxe did told me that, there are actually other places where you can get it even cheaper.  So I guess that pretty much broke my dream in starting a business there.  Lol.  Oh well, it wasn't long before we decided to head back home and call it a day.  So that pretty much end day 7.
Esther's Grand Uncle whom she was afraid the first time when she met him few days ago.  On day 8 was pretty much the last day we can explore Jakarta.  Because the following day we would be heading off back to Kuching.  Deluxe's uncle came by early in the morning just to drop off a cake he baked specially for Deluxe.  The cake taste absolutely delicious, and all of us were complementing him on a job well done.  I guess you could say that he could actually start a bakery, and his sons would help push marketing it.  Anyway, he didn't stayed too long as one of our cousin had to go to work using the bike.  So he left us with a very delicious sponge cake, which we pretty much finished it on that day.
Before we went out for lunch, Esther had to eat first as the rest of us were not ready yet.  As we pretty much planned where we wanted to go after that, we decided to take 2 cars instead of 1 so that we won't need to travel back to get the other car once lunch was over.  After lunch, both mom and dad in law had to go to the shop while the rest of us decided to stay back and explore the shopping mall. As it was the biggest mall in Indonesia, that has 5 different sections that was connected into one place.
After spending about 3 hours, inside exploring the shopping mall.  Esther decided to fall asleep, and it was time to look for a place to sit as I was carrying her that time.  Fortunately for us she was asleep when we went inside the toys department.  If not I suppose she would want everything she saw in sight.  With the bright colors and soft toys, you could say that she was in heaven.  Lol.  Was not long before we found a place to sit, and it was just in time as my arm felt as if they want to fall off already.  Anyway, Deluxe continued exploring while I rest on the long bench.
Deluxe & Esther on a hippo  Once Deluxe managed to finish her exploring in the new mall, we headed back home to restock on Venice and Esther's food supplies before heading out for dinner. We are supposed to meet another aunt of Deluxes' so by the time we've reached home, we quickly refresh ourselves before heading to Golden Truly, as there was the meeting point.  Everyone seems to laugh at Deluxe every time she mentioned Golden Truly.  Because she felt that is the only place in Jakarta you can get a decent branded clothing because they are always on sale.  But we couldn't spend more time there as some of us were already hungry.
Inside the food court, Deluxe wanted to order gado-gado as this was the only place where she can recall it has the best gado-gado compared to the one in Chikini.  But to her dismay, apparently they ran out of it.  So Deluxe ended up calling something else before the guest of honor arrived.  After we collected our food, and began consuming it.  The guest of honor had arrived, and was asking us where else did we want to go and eat?  After a very long discussion, we ended up headed to Ancol for dinner part two.  Lol.
Ancol is like Disneyland but Indonesian version, where this is actually an amusement park.  In there, there are like different places or choices for you to eat.  So we ended up at one of the seafood areas, where apparently if you have a certain credit card you are able to get some special discount.  It was really a nice place actually, and every 15-30 minutes there would be someone singing a birthday song at different tables.  Whereby they'll give you a free coconut cake with spar
kles on top of it, as well as a birthday gift.  You can actually tell the waitress that it's your birthday and they'll start to arrange this special treatment for you, as waiter and waitress will surround your table and start to sing you a birthday song.  Mom and Dad in law came and joined us later before we departed our ways.  So that pretty much ended our Day 8 in Jakarta.
Tired, Sweaty but happy family  Day 9 was pretty much last minute shopping, as well as packing.  We've managed to fit everything into 4 bags, we pretty much went on our way to the airport which was about 4.30pm when we departed from our home.  As usual, there was a huge traffic jam on the toll.  But fortunately for us we arrived about close to 5.30pm.  Once we finally checked in, the person at the counter told us that our flight got delayed by another 1 and half hour.  So we decided to grab dinner at Hoka-Hoka Bento.  Which was very cheap for a set meal, and very filling too.  Not to mention that this is at the airport.  After dinner, Dad in law left us while the rest of us went inside to wait for our flight.  But all was not well as we got delayed another 30 mins, before we were on our way back to Kuching.
Upon arriving Kuching, we had to do the usual filling up the form which was taking a very long time because they ran out of forms on the table and I had to go and get it from one of their officer at the other end.  Once we were through, the health inspector stopped us because Esther was with us.  He went and checked her temperature and asked us if she had any fever, flu or cough.  We said no, then he asked us not to worry because she wasn't showing any signs on the thermal camera and just made sure that she was fine.  By the time we got our bags and out to the airport, it was already half past 12 in the morning.  All the taxis were gone so we need to pay extra for the midnight fare which was RM32 instead of RM22.  By the time we got home was almost 1am, and thank God that the shop was still intact.  We did a bit of house cleaning before we went to bed, as the haze pretty much left us a lot of house cleaning to do.  But that could dealt with the next day.
Last group photo at Ancol  So during this trip Esther, did grew a lot.  And also it was good for us to go back to Jakarta due to the cheap fare we had.  Return trip for all 3 of us was less than RM400 inclusive of 2 check in baggage.  It was also good for me because, during this whole week I was spending more time with Esther compared while I was here in the shop.  I also learned that family is always important above everything else.  No matter where we are, but when it is time to head back home to where you come from.  Family was the first priority in Deluxe's to do list.  Even before our trip back to Jakarta, we went shopping first just to bring something back to them.
During my marriage counseling with James, he taught us that marriage is not only meant for both husband and wives to be one.  But actually 2 families are to be married as well, so that's why they are called in laws and not outlaws ;)  As I know that it would mean a lot to her, for me trying my best to be close with her relatives.  Despite a little bit of communication problems, I would make an effort to make sure the communication won't break down.  Lol.  So you could say I'm still in the learning process.  But this is not the end, but actually the beginning of another journey in life.  As what I post earlier on about being "Chi Ka Ngin", which really is a beautiful meaning behind those 3 words.  So it's all good.
And finally I'm able to complete my Jakarta post after how many weeks of delay due to my crappy internet connection(took me actually 2 days to finish this post because of the frequent disconnection with my server), as well as my urgent trip back to Miri last week.  This post is finally over and I can get on and post on something else next.  Lol.  So sorry for the delay, and of course the bad layout which my site is currently showing at the moment.  Will try to fix that, when I have the time as I'm working on something at the moment.  So please bare with me on that.  My normal postings should return by next week, as I finally have gotten this out of my chest.  You guys have a good weekend now.

Google Calender

Things are starting to pick up here. And I guess it must be a good sign. Hopefully there would be no hiccups in between and I am able to complete the task that I was given. Thank God for the abundant blessings He has given me. Anyway, had Alladin Fried Chicken last nite, and most likely it will be a while before we'll be going back there again :P

Are you the type of person who has a lot of memorable dates inside your PDA or personal organizer? And there are so many important dates such as birthdays, anniversary, appointments or even public holidays. And hopefully you won't miss out on a very important appointment ;) Introducing Google Calender, whereby once you fill it up you will NEVER miss an important date again. Please take note that this is not a paid post :)

For the past few days, I've been trying to get Google calender to work on my blog. And apparently it wasn't that difficult. I had install the Google Calender Plugin, and took me a while to configure it. And now it's up. So you can see on the right hand side there's a box of the events which I will be taking notice of. What you see now are all public holidays that I listed, as well as school holidays. I'll prolly explain why I ended up using Google Calender in the end.

I was first introduced to this calender a few months back to help work out on the eBay free course which I participated. So basically, one of our colleagues would help set up our appointments, and just 1 day before the appointment google calender will email you a reminder regarding the appointment. Back then google would be able to sms to Maxis as well as Celcom, but not for Digi. So I never really took it seriously back then. But just recently when I tried fiddling around with it once again, this time Digi is able to support the sms feature. And yesterday I did a trial sms, it worked. What are the charges? I guess it's free for now because I wasn't being charged anything at all :)

Anyway, I've currently updated most of the school holidays as well as public holidays. The reason why I put these dates in so that I would expect more people to come in to the shop and prolly stock up a few weeks before hand. It pretty much helps as well in terms of planning for a short or long trip. Hehehe. And another thing I put inside there are birthdays and anniversary. But mostly the birthday are private, as I put the phone numbers in them so that I would not miss out on any of my family and friends birthday. So it's pretty much cool. Anyway, my friend use it to put her favorite TV shows so that she wouldn't miss it.

Anyway, do give it a try, and you would pretty much be surprised on what you can do with this fun free tool. Not sure if they would be charging for sms yet, but in the mean time. Start filling it up, and you can be sure you won't regret it. Did I mention you can sync it with Microsoft Outlook, Mobile Devices & Apple iCal or Mozilla Sunbird. So give it a try, and I'm pretty sure you won't regret it.

Disclaimer : Again I would like to emphasize that this is not a paid post, but rather a useful information which I think would pretty much benefit everyone :) Have a nice day.

The Truth About Plastic Bottles

Dear Friend,

Did you ever drink from a plastic bottle and see a triangle symbol on the bottom
with a number inside?

Do you know what the number stands for?

Did you guess that it's just for recycling?
Then you are WRONG!!!!!!

THE NUMBER TELLS YOU THE CHEMICAL MAKE UP OF THE PLASTIC .....

1 Polyethylene terephalate (PET)
2 High density polyethylene (HDPE)
3 Unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (UPVC) or Plasticised polyvinyl chloride (PPVC)
4 Low density polyethylene LDPE
5 Polypropylene (PP)
6 Polystyrene (PS) or Expandable polystyrene (EPS)
7 Other, including nylon and acrylic

What you aren't told is that many of the plastics used are toxic and the chemicals used to create a plastic can leach out of the plastic and into the food / drink.
Think about it, how many times have you or a friend said "I don't like this, it taste like the plastic bottle ..... "

THAT'S BECAUSE YOU ARE TASTING THE PLASTIC
The WORST ONES are #s: 3, 6, and 7

Check out this chart that breaks down the plastic, its uses and chemical makeup
(I find #7 a little scary)
http://www.epd.gov.hk/epd/english/environmentinhk/waste/guide_ref/guide_plascod3.html

Reusing plastic bottles by refilling them is NOT a good idea. WATCH THE VIDEO:
http://video.wnbc.com/player/?id=238518

Microwaving plastic containers affects the chemical make up of the plastic, allowing the chemical substances to destabilize and leach out more quickly into the food you are reheating. You can check out this article that ran in the Wall Street Journal:
http://www.mindfully.org/Plastic/Microwave-Health-Problems.htm

EVEN one of my favorite "RUMOR DEBUNKING" websites, URBANLEGENDS.ABOUT.COM

Lists the information as: overblown with a grain of TRUTH
READ the FULL 3 pages of the article!
http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl-microwave-dioxin.htm

Try to avoid re-using plastic bottles. Take care of yourself family.

Kota Kinabalu Part 4

Hopefully this would be the last part of Kinabalu as there are tons of others things I would love to blog but ended up forgetting what to blog about.. Hehe. But it's all good :) Due to multiply couldn't link our the pictures, you might want to go here and check them out. Seafood Pics.

Anyway, the seafood cost a bomb considering that they are really near to the sea and all that. But anyway, we've tried the seafood so it's ok already. After that, that's when trouble appear, after dropping off both Deluxe, mom and Kien Tung. I head back to the place to pick up Kevin and Chung Ang. So as I was there, I turned one round hoping to find them. But apparently they weren't there where I saw them last. ok. From this point onwards, I will do it in a poem way as I just watched something and I can't seem to stop thinking this way.. Lol.. So here it goes...

As I tried to turn the very first round,
They were gone, not there, no where to be found,
So I tried another turn and to my dismay,
I never saw them so I went back on my way.

Back at the backpackers to get my phone,
I then start the car, it won't move or budge,
I tried the lights as well as the horn,
No sound, no lights, I think it is gone.

I call up Chung Ang and let him know,
The car is dead, there's no more hope,
Kien Tung came down to double check,
With 15 years experience, it's confirmed dead.

Once they came back and shared their story,
15 minutes of walking through the darkness in glory,
They sang carols and hymns along the lane,
People actually thought they were both insane.

The very next day, we tried again,
But alas the results was still the same,
We head out for breakfast at Kedai Kopi City,
But guess what, we were treated a dish for free.

After breakfast we went to the shopping malls,
To do last minute shopping as well before the rain falls,
Deluxe and I head back to the car,
While the other started to wander off far.

We took a break at the coffee shop nearby,
To wait for the mechanic to fix our ride,
It took a while before he came,
While waiting for him, we played a game.

Once he arrived, we went to the car,
He popped the hood open and look for a scar,
But what he did really amazed us both,
He knock on the connectors, and there it goes.

The car just sprang back into life,
With no second thought or even a strife,
We head up the hills to have a look,
The whole KK City like the one we saw from a book.

After we took pictures up there for a while,
It's time to head back and carried a smile,
To meet the others to have a quick snack,
Before we head to the airport to get back.

We had Roti kahwin and teh kahwin,
The bread was huge you will know what I mean,
After that we went to rest,
At Aunty's Stella house which is a really nice place.

From there, we rested a little bit while,
To have a look at her dogs gone wild,
We bid farewell to KK after that,
And off to the airport with all our bags.

Thus end our journey here in KK,
It was indeed a nice place to go and stay,
It wasn't too bad considering the fact,
That all of us spent RM600 max.

Ok. That's pretty much about it on what we did the last day while we were in KK. And finally this post is long over due. But hey, at least I completed it.. Hehehe. Anyway, I've went and upgraded my flickr account, which considering the fact that now multiply very kiam siap don't allow linking back from their page. Oh well. You can't win them all. OK. Here are some links to the pictures which you might find interesting :) Have a nice week!

Kota Kinabalu Part 3

Checkingout the pictures that I took @ Kedai Kopi City

Mom wanted to find a place to drink so we ended up here, not too far from our place. So what happened was that, while waiting for the others to come back from their journey to the wet market. Mom went and asked to see if she can find EON Bank around. So she ended up asking the "Tau Keh Neo" of the shop, and apparently from there we started to chat. We found out that she was from Bau and got married to someone from Sandakan and started her business here. After having a nice pleasant chat with her, we were on out way. We went back to Borneo Backpackers and waited for Aunty Stella to come and pick up mom.

In front of the shop

Kevin and Chung Ang went and collected the key from Deluxe earlier on, but apparently they some how lost it on their way back. Yup. Lesson number 1, don't bring the key out when you can drop it at the receptionist :P Anyway, while we were waiting back there they were still looking for it before they call it quits. So they ended up paying for the replacement key. After Aunty Stella came and picked up mom, we headed off to the Island but before that we had a pit stop back at Kedai Kopi City for our lunch. Anyway, we tried some of their food which is quite amazingly nice :)

RM7 Fish Head Bee Hoon

Kien Tung is loving it

After lunch we head to Manukan. But before that, we had to go to Jesselton Point to reach boat that will carry us over to Manukan Island. We didn't plan to rent the snorkeling kit which cost RM15 at Jesselton, while RM25 at Manukan Island. Anyway, the boat ride there was about 15-20 mins from Jesselton to the island. We had a slight rough ride whereby the waves did managed to get in and got us wet. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a school of fish that were swimming around freely and so near to the beach. It was indeed a beautiful sight.

Once here, everything seems to be so peaceful and calm. It was more less like a relaxation place. I guess, you can't really get this beach in Kuching because it's way too far from the town. Lol. Anyway, it is really well preserved here in Manukan and the beach here were very clean. Kien Tung said it was more beautiful compared to Phuket, which I think he might be over exaggerating again. But he still insist that it was better.. Anyway, we hang around the island moving around, while we saw a mermaid as well coming out from the sea and started walking around the beach.. Hehehe... Anyway, we took a few shots and also met a few cats where Deluxe started to snap away.

Deluxe having fun

We ended up quite a while there, before we head back to Kota Kinabalu. And apparently on our way back, the sea wasn't being too friendly. So we sort of had a ride of our life. Apparently the driver went and speed like nothing, and boy was the boat flying. We had to detour to Sapi Island to pick up another 2 more passenger before heading back. By the time we reached back to Jesselton Point, Deluxe commented that the wind indeed made my hair looked nicer and said that it looks as if I just came out from the saloon to blow. But unfortunately for Kevin, well. He was soaked all over. Lol. Poor guy had a tough time sitting at the back. Hehehe. Anyway, after we headed back to get cleaned up. We went to have some seafood! Anyway, will finish up that part later... To be continue......

Budget Kota Kinabalu Trip

Paypal might be surprising Malaysia & a few more countries soon :D

Ok. We're on a tight budget and tried to see how much we actually spent on our Kota Kinabalu Trip. Ok here's the breakdown price for each person.

Return Airplane TicketRM238.98
Accommodation for 4 nightsRM130
Misc ( Food, Taxi, Entrance fees, & boat ride )RM150
Total Spent518.98

Not too bad considering that we've stayed there for 4 nights, and managed to almost covered most of the major spots like Kinabalu Park, Poring Hot Springs, Manukan Island & KK itself. We also ate some of their local food, as well as sea food which I think it's a bit pricey compared to Kuching. Anyway, it's all good. But we managed to borrowed a car from my cousin, so it's a more less give and take kinda thing :) Anyway, our accommodation was at Borneo BackPackers, which was comfortable and clean. At RM30 a night, with 5 ppl in it seems affordable :). So it's all good! Anyway for more details what we did, please head on over to my personal blog and check out the details there..

Kota Kinabalu Part 2

It really has been a long week, been busy with tons of work. Will explain later.. Had problems with Multiply whereby it didn't allow me to link the pictures now.. So I had to turn to flickr as an alternative :) It's all good.. Ok.. Anyway, here's our epic adventure went..

Putting our feet in Hot Springs

After we managed to meet up with the others, apparently they had their own epic adventure and so we packed up and headed into our kancil. So our next destination was Poring Hot Springs. It was about 30-45 mins drive from Kinabalu Park, and we managed to find our way there despite a few wrong turns. As we managed to see cows on the way, and also dogs every 5 meters. Lol. Then here we were, at the entrance of Poring Hot Spring. Yeap, we managed to soak our feet in there, but apparently it wasn't really like what we expected. Deluxe and I still suffered from the muscle pain due to the excessive if I may say work out from mountain climbing. But it was all good. After that, we had a small treat where we bought coconut to refreshen ourselves. And apparently Kien Tung seems to enjoyed it saying it was very sweet. I still think he was over exaggerating about the whole thing.

Kien Tung Enjoying His Coconut     So after all of us except for Kevin, drank finish our coconut. We headed back to Kota Kinabalu. As we headed back, there was a lot of big trucks heading back. So the time taken was quite a while, and this is when Kien Tung sort of "Lai Tien" asking Kevin to announce the speed and how long will it take to reach KK. So apparently he's still crazy over planes. Plus our "Ketua Pramugara Sebastian" had to do all the normal procedure which all of had a blast each time he uses his yeah so call "Sebastian" name.. By the way he's real name is Tay Chung Ang.

As we were heading back, it got slightly difficult as it was getting dark and the mist began to evolve around us. So it was a little bit dangerous in a sense we can't really see much. Plus with so many heavy machinery in front of us, it was kinda of difficult to over take them. As we were driving half way, suddenly Deluxe heard a weird sound. It sounded as if the tires got busted and it was making that sort of sound. Then suddenly all of us got worried and tried to look for a place to pull over. Indeed the sound was getting louder and louder as we began to noticed it more, but Kevin said he doesn't feel a thing. We managed to pull over at one of the lane and checked out the tire, thank God nothing happened. So we inspect what in the world was that sound, so I asked Kevin to slowly drive forward and a piece of rubber came off from the tire. We wondered where it came from, but not long after that we quickly get into the car and started our way again as it was really starting to get dark.

Kevin & Kien Tung Looking @ The Menu

But in the end we managed to find our way back to the Kota Kinabalu and apparently took slightly longer than expected due to the heavy vehicles moving around. But thank God that all of us arrived back at the backpackers safely. So after we showered and freshen up, we went and look for food. Apparently, there wasn't any much places to eat since it was about 9.30pm. So we parked at Center Point and started to look for food. Apparently the only place available was The Chicken Rice Shop. What to say about this place? No doubt the food was good, but the service was horrible. Yup you got it right. Apparently they either kept forgetting our order, or plate or something has to be missing. I guess it was late and they just want to go home.

Kien Tung trying to coax Chung Ang in getting the wallet

Anyway, after dinner we headed to the Night Market. There wasn't really much left as most of them were closing. But apparently their items were identical and there weren't any much variety. Probably it was because most of the stores were closing. But like any other Night Market you get to see tons of imitation products, but not too sure how good is the quality though :P But the prices were ok, considering yeah they're imitation. After that, we all headed back and called it a night.

Rabbits Sold @ Sunday Market Gaya Street

Mom called me up, about 8 in the morning. Said we'll meet up at Sunday market. But apparently most of us still tired from the trip. Especially both Deluxe and myself had a hard time moving. Anyway, while Kien Tung was the first to leave, followed by Kevin & Chung Ang. Deluxe and myself went and met up with mom, and followed her there since. So we did see quite a few interesting items that were sold there, and what surprised us even more was when we saw this.

Selling Turtles

Mom had compassion over them so she went and clean house and bought all 5 of them. Said will get release them at Aunty's Stella place, so I had the privilege to carry all 5 of them around Sunday Market and take pictures at the same time. So you can imagine how much fun I was having. As I told her, just let it be there and we come and collect them later. But noooooo, she had to buy them now because she worried we can't find them anymore -_-" Anyway, after we made a huge turn in Sunday market we ended up resting at Kedai Kopi City. I'll stop here for now.. Will update more later tonight :)

Kota Kinabalu Part 1

We left for KK on the 29th Nov, whereby Air Asia sms us telling us that our flight was rescheduled to 10.30PM. But few moments later, Air Asia resent an sms asking us to forget about the 1st SMS and depart as planned. We arrived KK about 10.30pm, and managed to get our luggage and we headed for the taxi counter to bring us to our first destination which is Borneo Backpackers where we we managed to check in and was greeted by the warm hospitality of the receptionist. After putting our bags, we head over to Burger King and get a late supper.

After supper, Ketam went back to the backpackers while Deluxe, Kevin, Kien Tung & myself took a cab and head over to Dogongon to get our transport for the next day. We had a great time talking nonsense with our cab driver, and basically he brought us to Holan, as he himself didn't know where the area was. So we arrived Dogongon about close to 12 am, and met up with my cousin to borrow his car. Oh by the way, we got a Kancil instead :P Anyway, as we were heading back, we sort of got a little bit side track and ended up rounding around KK. But fortunately we had a map with us, and we were able to get back to the backpackers safe and sound. Thus ended day 1.

We woke up pretty early the next day, got ready and head to Kinabalu Park. As Kevin was driving, while I read the map, apparently our passengers entertained themselves by simulating as if they were in an airplane trying to kill time :P Anyway, our journey took about close to 2 hours from where we were to Kinabalu Park. And as we started to ascended into the heavens, we wind down our windows to enjoy the cool fresh air. That was when we started to feel cold and began to really enjoy the weather. The view there was spectacular, and we thank God for giving us good weather to drive up to Kinabalu Park and enjoyed His beautiful creation.

Upon arrival at Kinabalu Park, Deluxe and I went and register ourselves for the climb while the others went to the cafe and tried to look for something to eat. Once we've already paid for the park fees as well as the climbing permit, we headed to the cafe and met up with the others. Unfortunately for us, they were not able to cook breakfast for us because they are still having buffet which cost about RM25/person. So we bought some biscuits and took it as our breakfast. After we had finished the biscuits, we left Kinabalu Park and began our journey to Timpohan Gate where we know there will be no turning back for the both of us.

We started out the journey not too bad. With both spirits were high we pressed on going for our journey. As most of it were steps, which was pretty easy for the 1st 3 KM. We noticed how the vegetation did changed as we climbed higher, as well as it was starting to get difficult to breathe. But never the less we pressed on and hope to reach Laban Rata before the sun set. As we were ascending the mountain we met up with lots of nice people who we had short talks with to help us forget that we were climbing the mountain. Things got worst after we passed the 3.5KM mark. That's when the steps became higher and harder to climb, and we weren't used to the high altitude which got us breathing even harder.

Our Guide - Lanting : For him it was a piece of cake to catch up with us

Feeling very weak, tired and hungry. We both started to regret on this journey to climb Kinabalu. But we knew it was too late for us to turn back. So we pressed on. And as we started to get even higher, it took like ages for us to pass 500 meters, and after every 5-10 mins I had to stop and catch my breathe. Fortunately for us, we bought walking sticks from the driver who drove us to the Timpohan Gate as suggested by our guide. He was really helpful and good to us. He even offered to carry our bags to ease the journey up to Laban Rata. By that time I was pretty much struggling very hard to keep up and pushing myself to the limits, whereby Deluxe was still in good shape walking up the mountain slow and steady.

We arrived Laban Rata about close to 6.30pm, where we were just in time for the sunset. Being able to reached there was a relief, while we took a few more pictures before we headed inside Laban Rata for our dinner. We were tired, hungry and couldn't think of what to eat. As we ate there, we seem to lost our appetite but rather loved to drink something warm while we were up there. By the time we finished our dinner, as we went out it was about 6-7 degrees celcius, and it was completely pitch black. We still need to travel again to our hut probably around 10-15 mins, and Deluxe quickly tried to reach the place hoping that we'll find the resting house. As it was total darkness, time passed as if it was very slow and we couldn't see any lights from the Gunting Lagadan. We were worried that we might have taken a wrong turn or something, even with our head lights we knew we were walking in a trail, but not sure if we will reach that place or not. Plus it was getting extremely cold, and after climbing a few more steps Deluxe finally saw the hut. As we quickly rushed to the house, one of the climbers opened the door and welcomed us in. We head straight into our rooms and tried to settle down. It was about 8pm then, and we tried our very best to sleep.
Inside Laban Rata

We couldn't sleep at all that night, as we both tossed and turned while the cold air was like driving a sharp knife through our head not to mention that it was really freezing in there. Then we got up about 1 something in the morning, and start to have our breakfast. We brought Maggie hot cup along, and while Deluxe was still resting in the room I went and try to boil some water for our breakfast. As I reached the kitchen, there were already a few people who were boiling water and all of the stove was occupied. One of them, who was kind enough asked me to use his water first because his friends were still sleeping. I thanked him, and he was even kind enough to help me pour the hot water into the cup.

After breakfast, we rested for a while before Lanting dropped by our room and asked us if we were ready to climb. It was about 2.30 already in the morning so here we go. Climbing up Kinabalu the second time, and this time is even more challenging because it was freezing, and we can hardly breathe due to the fact that the oxygen level is getting thinner. By taking longer deep breath, it easily made us very tired as I basically had to crawl a few places. So much for people who said it was easy :P Anyway, as we continued our journey we reached to a point where we had to climb up the mountain using ropes. From this point onwards, there will be no more trees nor vegetation. It was dark, we were tired and we moved on to climb Kinabalu. I believe this would be the hardest part in climbing Kinabalu as we were like scaling the face of the mountain, and we took quite a lot of stops here because it was indeed tiring, and difficult to breathe. Even with our thief mask on, it was still freezing and breathing through it was very difficult.

Deluxe and myself ran out of water already at this point, and it was about another 1 KM before we reached Sayat-Sayat hut. It was already difficult for us to move on, especially someone like me who is a size of a cow get fatigue very easily. And to think that people really need to be physically fit as well to climb this mountain, where as I took the easy way out by not even training :P Anyway, we managed to reached Sayat-Sayat check point and replenish our drinking water. The sweet cool taste of mountain water, quenched our thirst immediately and we continue to climb Kinabalu. From that point onwards, it was starting to be very tough for me as I was getting extremely tired and sleepy. After walking for a few steps, we had to stop. The most 3-4 steps I had to stop already. With only 1.7KM to go, Deluxe and I throw in the towel. The guide suggested that we shouldn't go on because of my condition -_-" Yeah, basically I collapsed on the mountain and couldn't even move up anymore. Even though I asked Deluxe to go on without me, she said she wouldn't want to and also feel very sleepy already. At that point I felt very bad, so the guide suggested that we head back down to the Sayat-Sayat hut and rested there.

As we descend down the mountain, I kept on apologizing to Deluxe for not being able to carry on the journey and she said it's ok. As she couldn't carry on either, and it would be meaningless to carry on without me to the top. One Lanting opened up the hut for us, we straight away fell onto the bed and slept there for a good 1 hour plus. As the sun was about to rise, we were awaken by Lanting to catch a good view of the rising sun.

It was indeed a spectacular sight, and even though we never really made it to the top. It was pretty much good enough for us, as it wasn't too bad whereby with no training at all we can even reach to this high. As we stood there, greeted by the warm sun we felt contented and considering the fact there were few people who turned back at the early stage. It was good enough for us. We took a few more pictures there, and we began our descend to Laban Rata once again. After having a good rest, we felt more energized and was zooming our way down. Once we've reached Laban Rata, we had a good and heavy breakfast before we start our journey down to Kinabalu Park.

Unlike this time, it didn't took us long to reach Kinabalu park. We went downhill, and quickly passing each stops by resting for like 5-10 mins. After going down for like 2-3 KM, my toes started to gave away.. What happened was that, I forgotten to cut my toe nails, and it was pressing against the shoe which made it very difficult to move from there. We basically slowed down a bit, but we still moved on. When we were at the last 1 KM from the Timpohan Gate, I asked Deluxe what will be the first thing I would buy once I reached there. She answered "100 Plus". She knows me well, so as we pushed ourselves faster to carry on trying not to rest too long at the last stop. I felt contented that, after going through 28 hours of putting our bodies to the limit is about to end. Once we saw the gate, we were like so happy that our Kinabalu journey has ended.

Anyway, I guess the mistake that we made was that probably we didn't had breakfast or lunch before the beginning of the journey. Plus we started out very late, so it wasn't recommended. And also, we didn't get enough sleep whereby we slept about close to 2pm and woke up about 6am, and then on the 2nd nite we didn't get to sleep at all. But I believed that if we slept enough and ate enough. I could be certain that we'll both reach the peak.. But I guess, that didn't happened :P Anyway, will sum up on the next post.. As for now.. Stay tuned for Part 2

Going To KK Soon

Yup.. Will be heading out to KK tomorrow nite. And will only be back on Monday. So KK watch out as Holankia is coming to visit you.. Hua hua hua.. Guess it's all good, everything seems to be well for now.. Hehehe.. Still have a few more things to work out as well. But that's ok. Will do a few more last minute shopping and then packing tonite.

Everyone seems very negative about climbing the mountain.. Oh well, we shall see.. It's gonna be a test both physically and mentally.. Anyway, they said you need stamina.. But someone said don't have to rush and go slowly and you would be fine. Going to be a long walk but heck.. This would be something big I might achieve in life.. Hahaha.. So wish me luck and hope that I wouldn't turn back halfway :P

Apart from that, probably by the time we reach down we would be heading to the Island and chill out there.. Hehehe. That be cool. Hopefully will get good shots there as well.. And I hope my batteries wouldn't die out so quickly.. Hehehe.. Anyway, will update on something else later...

Other news, last weekend took Deluxe out to Bella Italia for dinner. Yeah. Decided to reward ourselves after eating common food for over 2-3 weeks, we decided to change our menu a little bit. It was a little bit costly, but it was well worth the money. Didn't took any pictures of it as we really wanted to have a nice evening out.. Hehe.. We ordered Beef Lasagna, Tuna Pizza, as well as garlic bread.. Twas very filling, and eventually we had a good time there as well.. Ok got to run now. Need to get some other things done :) You guys have a nice day.

Categories not working

I just realized that the categories for wordpress wasn't working. As I tried to add a new category, it just wouldn't show. Apparently after going through some of the forums, this is what I found. Apparently there are a lot themes out there are not Wordpress 2.3 compatible which caused this problems, and for other themes certain categories wasn't able to be shown. So apparently, if you still wanna add new categories to your current themes, then switch back to the default theme, sign out and sign back in again. Then you can add your category and switch back to the older theme. Tentatively you can actually go and code your theme to fix the SQL problems.. Good luck ya! I notice the tags also not showing.. So might need to fix that as well -_-"

HP IPAQ 512

Ok.. Just recently got this phone. Apparently it is one of the coolest phone that I think I could have ever own. Here are the main features which I thought was the main reason I could use it. Because of it's support for SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) where when you are able to connect to the Internet, you can actually connect to any SIP servers and start making phone calls for free. If you are familiar with Voipbuster or mostly Voipstunt, you can actually make phone calls to there free. So instead of bringing your laptop around and with a microphone jack to it. All you need now is this phone and it can bring wonders for you.
