So Long 2012, Hello 2013

Ok so it's already the end of the year. So what has happened so far for this year? Guess pretty much a lot. And hopefully one day I will be able to do something about my life in a sense, where I want to change the world. But I guess that would be impossible for now, who knows in 2013 I may get lucky and able to do something with my life and change the world. But from now till then, I'll prolly live a holan life for now.

So much for an introduction. So 2012, did not bring a lot of joy but pain as well. That's why I seldom really blog much nowadays, as nothing really spectacular happen in my life. But anyway I probably would think that if I met these people below, would be the highlight of 2012 for me.

Me and Jackie Chan would be cool.

Me and Jason Mraz

Having a moment with Jin And Reuben would be cool.

President Obama would be a nice person to meet

And of course riding on his popularity Psy may boost my ranking

But alas things above may not happen to me in 2012. So I guess I may need a few more years or even decades should I ever have the chance to meet these people. So instead of having wishful dreams, let's get real on what actually happened throughout 2012.

2012 bore a lot of good news, as well as bad news. One in particular where my family lost our beloved Aunt Lina to colon cancer. As she was battling it for 6 months, where by she was misdiagnosed with gastric instead. When we found out, it was a little bit too late but I guess my brother managed to prolong her life here on earth a little longer. But through her passing, we know no matter what family stays together. There were of course other people who were sick, and we had to serve them throughout the year. But I guess sometimes we need to serve those who are sick, as Jesus instructs us to love thy neighbour as thyself. At least, they know that even their own family pretty much given up on them but they were still able to find comfort through our serving.

Never the less 2012, also brought many blessings in disguise. One major achievement I could say probably is finally able to reach 80KG. In other words I have dropped 17 KG within the period of 6 months, and boy it was an awesome adventure for me. Seriously, I would have done it if it wasn't for Deluxe who supported me throughout the time while I was TRA. As I managed to change my lifestyle from eating all sorts of unhealthy food, to pretty much choosing the right food to eat. Hence I went and closed down my main blog at alexjong.com, to pretty much dedicate my weight lost programme there. And share my experience through that website.

And there were times, when we thought that we wouldn't have enough to cover for rental, but the good Lord never failed us for one second. He always provide even at the very last minute during one of the month. Maybe it was a sign telling us to put our trust in Him more and HE will surely not Holan us. Hehehe.. But this year, despite all the misfortune that I've gone through. God has been there through out the whole time. To pretty much make sure He'll see us through.

So what to expect for 2013? Well, I'm not too sure yet. But I know, our fate is in His hand. And basically, just put our trust in Him and hope for the best. Despite the fact that, there will surely be uncertainty for our future. We shall see which direction He leads us and guide us. So on behalf of my family and I, I would like to wish all of you a blessed 2013. And may God bless all of you for the upcoming 2013.

December Is Here

So it has come to the last month of the year 2012.  And things has been shaky for the past few weeks, but eventually everything is good.  Thank God for that.  Was supposed to head back Miri yesterday, but due to unforeseen circumstances I had to cancel the trip.  Ticket wise pretty much burn, but I guess it's all good.
God hand has been working quietly behind the scenes, despite of all the tribulation that I've been going through these past few weeks.  He has ceased to fail me, by sending angels to come and minister to me.  Though we are not out of the woods yet, but now at least I know He is still there beside me.  Maybe one of these days, once everything settles down I may write about this.  Till then will update again sometime soon.

Moving On

I'm spending most of my time on Ubuntu as of late. Been kinda cool, actually working on it along with the NAS. At least now my hard disk is no longer full like before.  Streaming videos as well as photos flawlessly.
Unfortunately I am not able to install my printer because of the lack of driver for linux.  Plus, the NAS couldn't install the driver onto it hence I was not able to use Airprint or sharing printer on android devices.
Oh well, will probably use windows to print my documents. We shall see how it goes. Now I'm currently working on alexjong.com. Hopefully will be done in another day or two.
Anyway, this is a necklace Esther made for me. Cheers :)

Fuji Xerox Docuprint M205B & Network Access Storage

OK, just gotten myself these two devices. One is the Fuji Xerox Docuprint M205B Laser Printer and the Dlink Network Access Storage. Pretty much satisfied with both the printer and NAS. Considering that I seldom print colors, plus the previous ink jet printers has been giving me headaches where if one of the ink runs out I am not able to print anything. And unfortunately for me, my Brother Printer has finally given up on me again as I suspect there is something wrong with the print head. So now I ended up getting the Fuji instead. At least it comes with a 1 to 1 exchange warranty for the next 3 years! Yes, that's how great it is.

Plus I'm still figuring out on how this NAS actually work. Currently I am able to print from my laptop via wifi, but not on Deluxe laptop. But for the past few days with it, I finally find how great this device really is. Considering the fact that I am able to backup my system and finally share files between my laptop, and Ipad. So basically it has indirectly my network is now sort of have a mini cloud at my home. So at least I could now transfer all my photos on the Ipad to the server. Which is pretty neat. But unfortunately I am still also not able to print from the Ipad. Oh well, guess I'll try to work it out some time later.

I just completed backing up my data, which took about 1 and a half hour over network for 27GB worth of data. And while I'm typing this blog I'm waiting for my laptop to create the recovery disc for me. Still another 2 more disc to go. Never the less it's all good, as I'm going to finally reformat my laptop after having it for 1 and a half years. As this time I may take about 50gb to install Ubuntu on this laptop. Since the warranty period is over, then I guess it's time for me to finally make full use of it.

Windows 8 is sure fun to have, but I still think I need Ubuntu to get a few things running. Hopefully will start formatting by tonight if not by tomorrow morning. May still need to download Ubuntu after I format this laptop. Never the less, it's all good. Since most of my data has finally been back up, and a lot of things that I used to download had to delete them as I doubt that I will be using them anymore.

Oh well, I think I shall stop here now while waiting for the system to complete creating my recovery disc. Kinda sucks whereby I can only create it once. If not I would have waited to get a Pen Drive instead. Oh well. life goes on.

Oh yeah, got a call from Digi stated that my contract is going to up by next month.  Never the less they gave me an option to continue to stay with them for another year for RM55/month which includes of all the 200 mins, 200 sms, 20 mms and 1GB Internet data.  Which I think it's fine by me.  So it's all good.

Kenyalang Park

This place has been my home away from home when I first came to Kuching. The people there always seem nice, and of course the food is great there. I went back there again today, as I tried to look for the old lady who makes excellent rojak. But alas she wasn't there yet. Next to her stall at Kenyalang Food court, the one behind and slighty lower part of Kenyalang has great variety of fried food.  Not only that, at Kenyalang Park you can have probably one of the best Fried Kueh Tiao with clams, and also char kueh.

Food wasn't the only thing you can have there. For all Kuching people know what is Kenyalang Park is famous for.  Over there you can find a humble yet simple electrical shop that I brought to repair my monitor as well as TV.  And also I remembered visiting the good old doctor when I was not feeling well. Plus there is also a cobler there who can help fix up your shoes, and once I forgotten to get back a bag. Unfortunately he sold it, and that was the last time I saw it.

Kenyalang Park have also a mini post office where all bills are easily paid for. And sending things is easier then for me.  There's also a wet market there, and you can have good breakfast at the top floor.  And sometimes when I got hungry st night, there is a burger stall where I normally go for a late night snack.

Now the Spring is there at Kenyalang Park. Which pretty much brought a lot of life to the community there. But people still go there for many reason.  And I for one, went back to the community once took care of me but no longer remembered me.  All I can do is smile, and thank them for all the things they have done for me. Especially the old lady who always gave me extra rojak, and the aunty next door who cook a RM4 portion but only charge me at RM2.50 back then.  Thank you Kenyalang Park.

Holankia Talkshow #10 - Moving to Holankia.Com

So here I am. Back again trying to revive something that has been dead for over a year. And hopefully this time will be a weekly kinda thing. Instead of twice a week, which pretty much killed the show due to lack of inspiration. Anyway, here's a few things that I mentioned on the podcast.

20 Gallon Water Bottles

Once in a while, I would need to carry at least 5 of this bottles from the ground floor to the 1st floor and sometimes 2nd floor.  I remember carrying these "tongs" and almost died because of the lack of stamina. Never the less, once you got used to carry these babies, its not that bad anymore. Plus at least I don't get anymore back aches after that.

Mobile Posting

Another reason why I will be posting more on this site, is that I will be blogging from my mobile phone which I will be doing a review soon. Anyway, I'm testing out how it will look like so hopefully everything will turn out good.
Anyway going to be a short post for now as I want to see how it looks like.

It's On

Durian Season Soon!
Ok.  It's been a very long time that I last update on this blog.  And since I will be closing down my main website at http://www.alexjong.com to pretty much going to convert that to a more business like website.  I will still use this blog here to update more on things that I should be updating for a very long time.

As of late I have been extremely busy with work hence not so much updating on this website here.  Also on my main blog.  Currently, I'm converting my website to a more portfolio type of blog where things will be more different and I don't think I will be posting personal stuff anymore.  As most of my personal stuff will be stored on my local drive.

Anyway, this will be more frequently updated as i think one day when I am no longer around, at least this blog will continue to remain here.  Who knows it may be useful in the near future. Oh well, life goes on.  See you in the next post!

Goodbye 9700, Hello 9320

The beloved Blackberry 9700
Ok for the past few weeks my previous Blackberry 9700 has finally kicked the bucket.  And after spending a lot on getting it repaired I finally threw in the towel when the phone apparently die on me.  I tried a lot of way to revive it but alas, all effort was futile.  Never the less, I finally went and got rid of it as I think it will cause more problem trying to fix it.  So I let it go at a pretty low price, which was quickly grab by someone who couldn't wait.  Thank you 9700 for all the fond memories we have, but I guess it was time for me and you to go our separate ways.  So maybe it wasn't mean to be.

Hello Blackberry 9320
So after a few days of considering on which blackberry I should get.  So after a long consideration I finally decided to get the Blackberry 9320.  One of the main reason is because of OS7.1, as a lot of people ask me to wait till OS10 to appear.  But I doubt I will go for it, should OS 10 does eventually comes out.  Never the less, this will do for me because it has 3G, Camera Flash & GPS.  And it's within my range where it didn't hurt my pocket that much.  Never the less, it's all good and hopefully I will be posting more things with it via my Tumblr Account, where this phone will be updating that site.

By the way, it came with a 2 year warranty which I think it's awesome considering the fact that my previous Bold died on my after a year and a half.

Car Broke Down

Ok. This got to be one of those days, when things couldn't get any better.  I was on my back from a regular activities, and decided to pretty much stop and make payments for my credit cards.  Little did I know, when I got back to my car, it wouldn't start at all.

Fortunately for me, I wasn't too far from the mechanic that fixed my car previously.  The initial quotation they gave me would not exceed RM100.  After pulling everything part, said it's worst than they thought, so bills would be about RM700-800.  Anyway, ended up paying RM750 to get my disc brake fixed which I think I got slaughtered.

Anyway, long story short.  They managed to replace my car battery using the dry cell type for RM255.  And that my friend how I started my day yesterday.

Kolo Mee in 30 seconds

Ok here's a video that I did, trying to finish a bowl of Kolo Mee in 30 seconds.  Larry was the timekeeper, Luke was the cameraman, while Dennis was there to have his Dinner.  Anyway, this is a very dangerous stunt, one must not try what is currently being shown in the video as it takes years of practice.  Without further adieu, click here to find out if I can do it or not!

Pontianak Trip

Ok. Last Saturday, I went for a short trip to Pontianak. And of course, my flight was delayed for 2 hours. You can find out more here Holankia Holan Maswings. Was suppose to publish this yesterday, but due to uploading the video was way too long I ended up posting this post today. Anyway, I'm still working on the sound quality as the initial part of the video I was using the Samson CO1U condenser mic, then followed by the Sony PX312. Hopefully it will get better in the near future. So without any further adieu, you can check out my video here.

The hotel that I stayed was at Aston Pontianak, which was fully packed because of some function they had. But it was a really nice hotel.

Holankia Holan Maswings

What a great way to start this blog post. Probably will post it after my trip back from Pontianak.  Ok.  So I was on a secret mission to Pontianak last Saturday.  I guess the reason why I kena holan by Maswings, was probably due to the fact I holan them first.  Unfortunately for me, I estimated wrongly when to leave the house to the airport.  With less than only 45 minutes for the flight to depart, I went and checked in.  Normally if this was AirAsia, you would be given the "Talk to hand, cause the face is not listening" attitude.  But fortunately for me, it was from MAS (how I love you) and the person at the standby counter quickly check me in.  BUT I forgotten to take the passport which I accidentally left in the car, hence zoom once more to collect my passport and quickly headed back to the counter where he immediately check me in. Out of 10, I would have given 1000/10 points to MAS for being so understanding, plus I told him I didn't had any bags to check so he let me through.  You just got to love MAS.
The Beloved Maswing

Anyway, upon clearing immigration went straight to the departure gate just to be told that they would only be letting us in, in another 10 minutes.  Which I thought was ok, so sat down and started to fill the arrival card to Indonesia.  Not long after that, we were all asked to board the plane as they were ready to depart.  You know something must be wrong when everyone is inside the plane, but the plane is still not moving.  Soon MAS engineers started boarding the plane, and began doing his "thing" as I was seated at the utmost front.  To cut long story short, our flight was delayed by 2 hours due to technical reason.

We had to disembark from the plane for safety reason as well as it was stuffy inside, to go back into the departure hall to lepak there.  Anyway, MAS did compensate us by buying us breakfast which took away of waiting time.  By the time I finished, the plane was ready to be board once more and we were on our way.  One of the passenger told me that, this was his first and last experience flying through Pontianak then Jakarta.  Told him that things like this rarely happen, but it's sometimes to be safe than sorry.  And that my friend is a lesson we all should learn, never holan Mas or else you will be holan by them. Hua hua hua.  Will post my Ponti trip on my main blog.

Short Trip To KL

[caption id="attachment_2370" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Waiting at the terminal for my flight"][/caption]
Here I am again just blogging away while waiting for my plane to arrive to head back to Kuching.  I was here since last Thursday night for a short trip.  Anyway, on Thursday night while I was blogging my previous post (which I seriously was grateful that I have this tab), the whole departure hall power apparently got cut off or either that the maintenance guy accidentally switch off the wrong switch. It was out prolly for about 5 minutes before everything was returned to order.  Probably that's why my flight got delayed as the whole airport went completely dark.  Fortunately nothing bad happened.

Earlier that day, I thought checking in early via the web checking feature.  Unfortunately for me, my printer was not functioning.  Not too sure what happen, could be something wrong with the print head. So I decided to use the sms barcode feature instead. After waiting for 2 hours, apparently the sms never arrived to my phone.  So I tried sending it to a different number this time.  Again, nothing came at all. So I went and use their live chat system.  Waited about an hour, before someone finally attend to me. For the record, after waiting for so long they didn't resolve the issue at all and I was told that it could be printed at the airport later.  Still not very convince with the person who chatted with me, I went and fax my boarding ticket and got it photocopied which I'm glad I did.

Upon arriving at the airport early, I went and try to reprint my boarding pass.  But due to the fact I couldn't get it printed out I was stuck with the poorly visible boarding pass.  So I headed over to the check in counter to hopefully get it verified, the person at the counter asked me to hold on while he check my IC and ticket.  Then he walked off to the printer and took another piece of paper. This person eventually went and reprinted my ticket for me at no extra cost. He said that my ticket was a bit blur, so he printed it out for me at NO EXTRA COST.  Now that's service, and I thanked the fellow and headed straight to the departure hall.

The flight, to KL was sort of an unpleasant one as I was down with the flu so I was seriously having a bad headache. As I tried to sleep, I was unnecessary awoken by the constant movement from the person who was sitting behind me.  Anyway, since it was an hour and forty five minute flight I went and pass time with the rubix cube that I bought a few days ago.  I arrived KL around 11.50pm about 30 mins late than scheduled which I thought it was all right as I had to wait for another hour before my elder brother arrives. It wasn't long before they arrived as their flight left Miri earlier than scheduled.  My eldest brother had already arranged his regular taxi driver to pick us up and sent us to his place.  One funny thing about taxi drivers in KL that I notice is that they tend to talk a lot about their lives as taxi drivers.  But one thing in common that I always hear from them is that as long as they are hardworking, they should make enough to not only pay for their rents but also for their own use.

[caption id="attachment_2371" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Lunch @ TGIF"][/caption]
I had a good 4 hour of sleep, before my biological clock decided to wake me up at 6 am.  Trying to go back to sleep was a useless effort as I just couldn't sleep even though I feel as if I had a freaking hang over.  Never the less, the day started slow and I went for breakfast with mom.  Upon arriving back home, Alyssa was up and was busy entertaining my elder brother and his wife.  The minute she laid eyes from me, she ran behind my brother. Apparently, I somehow managed to freak her out or something.  After breakfast we went out and gotten our things done, and dropback mom home before heading out with my elder brother to go jalan-jalan.  Seriously, all you need is a gps and you can pretty much get anywhere you want.  We went to curve for a late lunch at T.G.I. Friday, and managed to walk around a bit before heading back to rest.  The reason behind it was that we were going to see Russell Peters!  My eldest brother had tickets and was not able to attend due to work, so we were fortunate to go on his behalf.

[caption id="attachment_2372" align="aligncenter" width="225" caption="Russell Peters Live in Shah Alam"][/caption]
We attended his show, and boy was it amusing.  If you watched his youtube clippings, it's a 100 times better live.  Apparently "Fizzy & Family" was the star of the show, and also the guy with a tweety bird tattoo.  Seriously he was brilliant.  The show was about an hour and a half long, while 30 mins earlier we were entertained by Joey Medina, and 45 mins before that SpinBad was doing his thing. Anyway, seriously it was of course a good experience for me and probably that's why no video or audio recording was allowed. You could see numerous security holding flash light eager to eject you from the show.  Picture above was taken upon arrival before the show began, just for the record.

This morning we went for breakfast at a nearby place.  So before heading back to get ready to pack my bags to go home.  I asked my brother to drop me off at 1 Utama, as I told them I would take the bus to LCCT.  So when I arrived, I only found out that my flight leaves at 6.05pm which is an hour later than the original time.  If I knew it would have been delayed, I could have use the following bus and did some shopping.  Seriously I didn't really had the time to shop as time was limited for me.  Anyway, here I am once again at the departure hall, waiting for time to go by so hence I have the time to blog. Most likely I will get this published by next week, as I'm still editing some photo.  I guess that's all for now. Will update you guys soon.

Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus Day 5

Ok so I've been using the Galaxy Tab 7.0 for the past 5 days. And I must say, apart from the buldge that shows from my pants that has been grabbing a lot of unnecessary attention. This "Phablet" is ok! Sure it may look weird answering phone calls and talking out loud like that to grab people's attention, but I still think its cool.

Typing on this phone has never been easier especially the large keyboard in landscape mode. But I had a few problems, with the space bar, sometimes I accidentally hit the menu button.  But it takes a while to get used to it.  I'm currently updating my blog using this device at the moment, as i felt that with the large screen and I'm really loving what I see.  Sure the 7.7 may he a better device, but I still don't understand why people would sell it off so quickly.  I won't be going into spec details which I felt that there's a lot of review out there already.

At first I wanted to get a bluetooth keyboard, but since typing on this thing is easy, I guess I wouldn't need it after all.  I may get an OTG cable for this to pretty much connect to a pen drive or even usb keyboard.  But never the less, I think getting that cable is a must.  I haven't really fully utilize this tab yet, as I'm still trying to sort out the email where I couldn't get it to sync via exchange mail.  As I read somewhere, there are 3rd party apps that works better compared to the stock app.

Also I've went and ordered those capacitive pen that pretty works much like the galaxy note s pen. But of course the S Pen doesn't work on this tablet.  So far the only thing Ihave been playing on this tablet is picsart.  I went and used a micro sd converter to put into my point and shoot camera. I forgotten that this tab only play 720p videos, when I tried to play the video from the camera it wouldn't process.  Haven't tryout with the 720p quality yet, which I think I will within the next few days.

I haven't tried any presentation on this yet, but I think I will.  Hopefully that would addnsome extra points to this tab.  Another thing I was disappointed with this tab that it doesn't have a RCA converter yet.  Unlike the P1000.  Currently it only have a hdmi converter which I doubt I will be using that anytime soon.  At least having this tab could easily kill time, like now. But I guess Deluxe may not be too happy, as I'm already on my laptop early of the day. :-)

Another thing about having this tablet is you need a proper casing for it that can be flexible when using the tab.  Thanks to T.T.E. Tech, I've managed to get a very reasonable and sturdy casing that folds either in portrait or landscape mode.  Anyway, therebis still more things to explore on this tab which I still hv the time to do so yet.  Anyway, I think that's all for now as I'm seriously getting sleepy as I'm currently down with the flu. Not a very fun thing to have.

Till next time!

nicestupidplayground - Bedroom Window Cover

Ok. It's been a while since I last posted here. Lots of pictures and videos to upload from my Miri trip which I had quite a busy time from the moment I landed till eventually I left back to Kuching. Some go back to basically rest and take time off, but for me. Well, let's just say how life is much easier and relax during work time. LOL. So I guess it's good in a sense that I'm actually so called "resting" here in Kuching. But never the less, I'll update more on to that later. Anyway, was preparing some songs yesterday for Sunday and eventually decided to do a cover on this song. Managed to catch up with my good friends on the night before I left back home, and how I wished I could have stayed longer to meet up some more of them. Never the less, sorry I couldn't see all of you as I was packed during the Chinese New Year. Hopefully I'll see you guys soon.

Goodbye 2011

So today is the last day of 2011, and boy does time just fly by so quickly.  Unlike previous years somehow I felt that 2010 & 2011 really zip me by quickly.  Maybe I'm more occupied with stuff, either that I'm trying to chase after time.  Whatever the reason may be, I will be looking forward to 2012.  And who knows things will turn out much better compared to the previous years.

Not to say that 2011 was bad, but indeed this year I had a lot of opportunity that was sort of laid in front of me.  But due to bad time management, I had to drop out on a few.  But never the less, God is good and all I need to do is to put my faith in Him more.

This year, I did a fair bit of traveling.  Apart from the usual Miri for Chinese New Year and Jakarta during puasa time.  Both places are indeed a great getaway from the normal routine of my life from opening the shop and closing it.  So sometimes, having a break once in a while is good.  Never the less, I've also went back to Miri to vote which some thought I was crazy as it was only a day trip.  I remembered driving myself to the airport and parked it there for a good 17 hours, and just paid only RM17 for the parking ticket.  It was more cheaper compared to hiring a taxi.  Spent a few days in KL, while visiting my aunt and brother.  And actually went for a road trip to Miri via bus, plus to Sibu as well while following my father in law.  Never the less, it was a great experience for me as the long journey sort of was fun actually.

Anyway, next year resolution for me is probably just one.  Is to try and finish up my last year resolution, and also make sure I handle my time efficiently.  I've also started a new project, which hopefully I will see fruits within the next 2-3 months and maybe will post it here as well.  Should everything runs smoothly.

But all this would not have happened if Deluxe wasn't there to support me all the way.  Being the ever so loving wife, she had sort of put my head straight and sometimes had to pull me back to be on track on what I need to do.  If it wasn't for her, probably I would have given up a long time ago.  I guess she's not only my wife, but my best friend whom someone I can't live without. It's really good to know that I have someone whom I can talk to all the time, despite having a good or bad day.  Thank you for being there for me whenever I needed you. I love you dear.

And to my beautiful daughter who is growing up ever so quickly.  How I wish I could have spend more time with you.  As for the past few months, when I had a dateline to meet I had to work till late at night.  And pretty much got up way too early to begin working.  This year, I will make it a point to spend more time with you as I know that you only want to be close with me.  And I will need to remind myself that I wouldn't be that missing gap in your life.  So that is another resolution that I plan to do for 2012.

Anyway, that's pretty much about it for now.  Was supposed to published it on the 31.12.11, but apparently because I was too occupied with something else had to be postponed till today.  Never the less, would like to wish everyone a Blessed New Year and hope you all have a good one!

Excuse the low voice as I was still having the flu :P
